Girls Can Code

Girls Can Code

This weekend, our school hosted its second Girls Can Code course, aimed at encouraging young girls to discover the fascinating world of programming and develop essential skills in science and technology.

On the first morning, around thirty participants gathered for breakfast before embarking on a day dedicated to computing and programming. Supervised by students from various computer science schools, they were able to take part in a wide range of activities based on the Python language. The workshops were adapted to all levels, from beginners to the most advanced, so that everyone could progress at their own pace.

The following day, speakers from a variety of professional backgrounds shared their careers and experiences with the participants. Female engineers, developers and entrepreneurs took the time to discuss their projects, the challenges they have faced and the opportunities they have seized in their careers. Their presence reinforced the idea that women have their place in the technology sector and that they can excel in it.

A big thank you to all the speakers, Rosa De Miguel, Yasmina Auguste, Nathalie Canu, Emilie Feral, to the organisers, and to the participants for their enthusiasm and energy. This Girls Can Code weekend will remain an unforgettable memory and a source of inspiration for our students.

Following last year's success, our school is taking part again this year in the national “Passe ton hack d'abord” cybersecurity competition. Several high school teams have signed up: Bradwurst, Pikachu, TopGirls, SpiceGirls, OR1=1',  Ratatouille, Lumière Rouge, NSI Coins, etc... We wish them the best of luck!

Co-organized by the French army Commandement de la cyberdéfense (COMCYBER) and National Education ministry, the capture the flag “Passe ton hack d’abord_” (Pass your Hack first_) initiates high school students in cybersecurity as a complement to school programs, and stimulates their interest in this field.

A capture the flag (CTF) is a game composed of a series of technical challenges linked to computing and networks. Of varying difficulty, it leads, if successful, to the discovery of a “Flag”, a secret string of characters validating the obtaining of points. Here, the theme is computer security: the participant will have to solve 15 tests accessible online on the subjects of programming, networking, steganography and cryptography.

The project is aimed at a young audience from seconde , or S5, to BAC+2 level, some of whom are new to IT. The tests have been specifically designed to be solved by a high school audience, however some have a higher level of difficulty in order to decide between the students.

  • Cost: registration and participation are free.
  • Dates: capture the flag takes place from January 22 to February 9, 2024.
  • Location: The challenge takes place online.
  • Registration: Interested students should contact their math or computer science teacher before January 3, 202

Cybersecurity involves protecting computers, servers, mobile devices, electronic systems, networks and data from malicious attacks. It is also called computer security or information systems security.

Cyber defense brings together all the physical and virtual means put in place by a country as part of computer warfare.

Placed under the direct authority of the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, the commandement de la cyberdéfense (COMCYBER) is an operational command, which brings together all of the ministry's cyberdefense forces under a joint authority. Its mission is the defense of information systems, as well as the design, planning and conduct of military operations in cyberspace.

La Nuit du Code : Students in Full Creation with Scratch

La Nuit du Code : Students in Full Creation with Scratch

On Thursday May 30, our school organized the third edition of the “Nuit du Code”, a day entirely dedicated to Scratch programming. This event brought together middle school students who are passionate about IT around a fun and educational activity, allowing them to put their coding skills into practice and discover the joys of digital creation.

The participants' mission was to design a project in Scratch, ranging from a simple game to a complex animation, respecting one of the six imposed themes. Everyone was able to express their creativity while applying their programming knowledge.

After 6 hours of intense programming, the results were impressive. Among the projects presented, we were able to see games where we must pilot a space shuttle while avoiding enemy fire, naval battles, board games. The diversity and quality of the projects demonstrated the enthusiasm and talent of our students.

At the end of the day, the students chose four projects which will participate in the international selection: “Les Galagars” and “Mila et Elena” for cycle 3 and “Touhou Project” and “Pirate Party” for cycle 4. Let’s wish them their good luck. .

You can consult all the games programmed by the school's students on the Nuit du Code | Jeux 2024.

We would like to thank all the participants as well as the math team for the organization. See you next year for a new code night full of creativity and innovations!

Hippocampe camp 2024

Hippocampe camp 2024

From May 13 to 15, 2024, a group of 24 1ère and S6 students had the opportunity to participate in a “Hippocampe” camp, organized by the University of Aix-Marseille in the idyllic setting of the Luminy campus.

After the presentation of the research subjets by Enea Parini, researcher and lecturer at the Marseille Institute of Mathematics, the students divided into groups of four and began to think about one of the questions that were asked. Topics covered diverse areas of mathematics from number theory to geometry, probability and algorithms. One of the great benefits of this internship was the meeting of doctoral students and researchers in mathematics (Ana, Raphael and Lucas) who led the groups and knew how to make complex concepts accessible.

Beyond the purely academic aspects, the internship made it possible to develop a real team spirit among the participants. The students worked together on complex mathematical problems, thus promoting mutual aid and collective emulation.

The students also visited the library of the Center International de Rencontres Mathématiques (CIRM) and discovered the importance of sharing knowledge between mathematicians and the evolution of mathematical publications over the centuries.

The evenings were dedicated to fun activities, a hike in the Sujiton calanque, a visit to the town of Cassis, and games which strengthened the bonds between the students.

The Hippocampe camp was an enriching experience in many ways. It offered our students an intense and fascinating dive into the world of mathematics. We warmly thank the University of Aix-Marseille for this initiative, the researchers and doctoral students who accompanied us these three days, Ms. Founaud and Ms. Bonacucina for the organization and Mr. Gilbert and Mr. Perez for chaperoning the trip.

Academic school chess championship

Academic school chess championship

Following their qualification at the departmental chess championship, a team of nine middle school students participated in the academic school chess championship which took place on March 27, 2024 at the collège Sainte-Trinité in Marseille. They were able to compete against the best teams in the academy. After five rounds of fierce games, dotted with defeats and victories, cries of joy and tears, they finished the day in third place in the championship and brought back beautiful memories and a beautiful cup to the school.

Congratulations to all participants, Chaitanya (S1), Paul (S3-B), Victor (4th2), Jil (S2), Dhruvil (S3-A), Johanna (4th2), Seyun (S2), Sichen (S1) and Param (S3-A) and special thanks to the two girls who joined the team and to MM. Canham and Perez for carpooling.
