co-organized by the French army Commandement de la cyberdéfense (COMCYBER) and National Education ministry, the capture the flag “Passe ton hack d’abord_” (Pass your Hack first_) initiates high school students in cybersecurity as a complement to school programs, and stimulates their interest in this field.

A capture the flag ?

Un capture the flag (CTF) is a game composed of a series of technical challenges linked to computing and networks. Of varying difficulty, it leads, if successful, to the discovery of a “Flag”, a secret string of characters validating the obtaining of points. Here, the theme is computer security: the participant will have to solve 15 tests accessible online on the subjects of programming, networking, steganography and cryptography.

A challenge for whom?

The project is aimed at a young audience from seconde , or S5, to BAC+2 level, some of whom are new to IT. The tests have been specifically designed to be solved by a high school audience, however some have a higher level of difficulty in order to decide between the students.

When and where does the challenge take place? How to register ?

  • Cost: registration and participation are free.
  • Dates: capture the flag takes place from January 22 to February 9, 2024.
  • Location: The challenge takes place online.
  • Registration: Interested students should contact their math or computer science teacher before December 22, 2023.

What is cybersecurity and cyberdefense?

Cybersecurity involves protecting computers, servers, mobile devices, electronic systems, networks and data from malicious attacks. It is also called computer security or information systems security.

Cyber defense brings together all the physical and virtual means put in place by a country as part of computer warfare.

Placed under the direct authority of the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, the commandement de la cyberdéfense (COMCYBER) is an operational command, which brings together all of the ministry's cyberdefense forces under a joint authority. Its mission is the defense of information systems, as well as the design, planning and conduct of military operations in cyberspace.
