EIPACA’s medical society-La société médicale de l’EIPACA

EIPACA’s medical society-La société médicale de l’EIPACA

Prepare to be captivated by the EIPACA’s medical society! Starting from the 10th of February, this pioneering society is established with the aim of discovering and observing more about healthcare services. It is led by two students from S6, Taeeun KIM and Francesca Rinaldi Meneses under the guidance of Mr Scasso, a biology teacher. Currently, six other students have joined with great enthusiasm to expand their horizons outside the school.

Embarking on the first challenge:

As the team-bonding experience is important in the healthcare domain, the first experience in which we embarked on, included team presentations on distinct topics surrounding the medical industry such as neurology, dermatology, radiology, and allergy. In these, each team dove into their given fields and chose to present either new medical advancements or the journey taken to become an employee in this area.

These various proposals allowed for all students to enhance important skills such as research, communication and leadership skills, all of which are highly critical.

Following this first experience which consisted of a more theoretical approach, the succeeding activity would be more practical as to broaden our perspective.

A visit to the emergency room:

One useful way to understand the profession is to interact with people currently working in that field. Thanks to Mr Scasso and the director of the hospital, M. POUILLY Franck as well as Camille Mevouillon working in the emergency room (ER), we had a great opportunity to have firsthand work experience and tour of the Hospital Center Louis Raffali located in Manosque. The nurse introduced and explained the emergency room to us, and we had time to ask questions to various healthcare professionals, including the emergency room doctors, hospital service agents, nurses and assistant nurses. We were able to get a glimpse into their lives and understand their working conditions, which fostered our determination and motivation to be a part of them. Finding the dynamism of their work and the hidden difficulties often disregarded would not have been possible without such an experience!

After the first year of our medical society:

Although we did not have enough time for many of the activities we had planned, we sincerely thank Mr Scasso and other students for contributing their valuable time to this society. We all are looking forward to a more exciting and stimulating next year!

Solstice of the hedges
For nine months now, under the aegis of Mr Scasso, the SVT teacher, students James Goldie (1ère) and Marjane Alsterlind (2nde) have been working to install a hedge behind the EIPACA (École International Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur), with more than 80 trees and shrubs of local species, melliferous and favourable to insects, which today celebrate their first summer solstice. This project would not have been possible - or rather, would not have taken root - without the help of the school's Foyer Socio-Éducatif (FSE), chaired by Mme Marande. The planters, very pleased with the recent storms, would also like to thank the M.D.L. (Maison des Lycéens) and all its members. And the almond tree inaugurated by the Mayor a few weeks ago would like to thank Sandra Parigi, from Jardins du Mont d'Or, along with the whole team of planters.

Taking root is one thing, but in order to grow, our hedge will need the attention and help of everyone, from nursery to secondary school, so that it can soon celebrate its second summer solstice, thanks to you...

Students, parents, EIPACA staff, don't hesitate to contact the eco-delegates to get involved in this eco-project.

Spanish painters

Spanish painters

S2 students, under the guidance of Ms. Moreau, studied the life and work of the painters Salvador Dalí and Pablo Picasso.
The goal for each student was to choose a moment from their childhood and make a painting of it.
They used magazines, newspapers, cardboard and paint to create their works.
The vocabulary of emotions and feelings through colors was evoked and deepened. This activity made it possible to revise the grammatical tenses learned during the year.

Can artificial intelligence increase sport performances ? The EIPACA basket example

Can artificial intelligence increase sport performances ? The EIPACA basket example

Chat GPT, Midjourney, Dall-e, Audio-gen… allow you to create text, images, sound from a few words…
These novelties intrigue, fascinate or frighten depending on who talks about them, what we know about them, and above all how we use them.

The prospects are encouraging when AI becomes a valuable aid in diagnosis or medical research, when it detects the start of a forest fire...
Opinions are more pessimistic when it puts itself at the service of the armament, or when it deprives of freedoms. The new “chatbots” integrated into social networks (My AI from tiktok, for example) create dependencies and can lead their uninformed users to believe that they are exchanging with real friends who know them better and better.
No one is able to give AI a reliable definition. The Turing test, which puts a human being in competition with an “artificial intelligence” answering questions, is one of the tools that makes it possible to perceive the effectiveness of an AI.
It would seem that this technology will soon become ubiquitous in multiple fields. Should we be wary of it, should we get started?
It seems to us that the most judicious, to be able to talk about it and decide, is to better know how it works.
As part of the basketball sports section of EIPACA, Mr. Litschgy's students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in it, to test a very simple AI, and above all to discover its mechanisms.

CURRICULUM

 - Recognition of objects via a "learning machine" capable of distinguishing a basket, a ball, a bent or outstretched arm: It involved taking a large number of shots, then integrating this data (data) into the software who was then taught to recognize these different elements.
It was then enough to film any basket ball, arm outstretched or bent, for the application to recognize quite easily the type of object or the posture which was aimed by the lens of the camera.

-Home court  is an artificial intelligence application dedicated to learning basketball. It was partly tested by the students who were able to progress in a few specific motor areas:
-Responsiveness to a signal without a balloon
-Responsiveness to a signal while dribbling
- Driving the ball (dribble) towards virtual targets
-The shots (statistics, speed)
The application is able to locate the hand of the basketball player, and awards him points when the hand hits a virtual target.
The AI recognizes the ball, and a bonus is given when the ball hits the target seen on the screen by the dribbler.
We tested it, the AI recognizes the ball, the basket, and it credits the percentage of success when it validates that the ball goes into the basket.

-Discussions, surveys, debates on artificial intelligence with the main question: can AI replace a basketball coach?
